Casa Della Loggia

Casa Della Loggia, which sleeps up to 4 people, is situated in the 'Antico Borgo' - the historical centre of Calitri - a labyrinth of pretty cobbled streets leading up to a piazza and an 11th century castle. Casa Della Loggia is in a pedestrian only street with free parking only a couple of minutes away and provides recently renovated (2008) two-bedroomed accommodation over two floors. It is entered through a semi-private verandah leading from an ancient arch.

The front door opens into a large open plan living area from which you can look up to see the mezzanine floor and vaulted ceiling. The kitchen area contains storage cupboards, a fridge, washing machine, gas cooker, microwave oven, electric kettle and a toaster. There is also a working log fire (logs provided and kept in the cave) and a portable gas fire for early spring and late autumn evenings.

The living/dining area has a sofa, a sofabed, a coffee table and dining table and chairs. There is also satellite TV and a DVD player. Bedlinen, towels, a hairdryer and iron are provided. These houses were built into the hillside and Casa Della Loggia has a grotto which helps to keep the house cool during the warm summer months, as does the large electric ceiling fan.

The double bedroom is upstairs on the mezzanine floor, overlooking the living area below and, itself, directly below the vaulted ceiling, as is the passageway which leads to the door to the single bedroom. The single bedroom has french windows which open onto a small balcony which has the same stunning views as the verandah.

We would prefer it if you did not smoke inside the house but an ashtray is provided for those who wish to smoke on the verandah or upstairs balcony.

Alternatively, there is a shuttle bus from Naples Airport to the central station from where a bus runs every hour to Lacedonia and from there it is a short taxi ride to Calitri. A taxi from Naples Airport will cost about €140 and about €45 from Lacedonia
